Miami – South Beach
Our English school in Miami is located in the most famous area of Miami; South Beach, or as it is nicknamed SoBe.
Although many people think that South Beach is part of Miami, it is actually its own municipality. Miami is located on a barrier island east of Miami and Biscayne Bay. The city is home to a large number of beach resorts and is an extremely popular spring break destination. As Miami is so long, it is generally broken up into two or three districts. South Beach is the most popular district.
Historically, Miami Beach is known as being a center of arts, culture and nightlife. By comparison, Miami is now a major international entertainment destination. Consequently, it has very strong production and arts communities.
Additionally, Miami has a large Latin American population. As a result, Spanish is often used along with English for day-to-day discourse. Further to this, there is also a boyant Haitian community. Therefore many signs and public announcements are in English, Spanish, and Creole.

Despite occasional cold snaps, Miami Beach is known for its generally warm weather. Miami has a subtropical climate. This means that it has dry, warm winters and springs, and hot, humid summers and falls.
Miami International Airport (MIA) is the closest airport to our campus, but Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) is only around 40 minutes away. Zoni offers airport transfers to students arriving to study in Miami. Contact your coordinator for more information.
There are many options for getting around Miami. Although taxis are expensive, they are very convenient. Ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft have are also popular in Miami. In addition, buses are an affordable way to get around Miami. Many of the buses drive rings, making it very easy to find your way. Decocarts are a type of Eco-friendly golf cart. You can rent these in South Beach if you have a driver's license. Finally, new bike paths and bike lanes have been created. In South Beach, riding is permitted on sidewalks.
There is so much to do in Miami! The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition is one of the largest fairs in the USA. It attracts nearly 700,000 visitors each year in March - April. If you are not in Miami for the Fair, why not take an Art Deco Walking Tour? Learn about the colorful history of the buildings, the pioneers, the heroes and the villains of Miami. Also, why not rent a boat and enjoy a day on the water.
Many international cuisines are found in Miami. However, Latin foods, particularly Cuban cuisine are especially popular. Try Cubano sandwich and a cafecito (literally it means little coffee, but is a kind of strong, sweet espresso) and enjoy food like a local.
Miami has many hotels, located mostly around the beach area. Surprisingly, high season is during the winter (November – February). There are hostels throughout the city as well homestays and various other accommodation options. When booking a hotel in South Beach make sure you read the reviews from other travelers before booking. There are a lot of things to do and see in Miami. From festivals to museums, there is something for everyone. Highlights include: Art Basel Miami, Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Miami International Film Festival, Miami Marathon, Art Center/South Florida Bass Museum, Miami Holocaust Memorial and SoBe Institute of the Arts (SoBe Arts).
Most of Miami's nightlife is concentrated in South Beach around our campus. If you prefer to go inland, Miami's nightlife is centered on Coconut Grove. Adult students can Join an organized nightlife tour like the South Beach VIP Pub Crawl. This can save you some money, and has the added benefit of new friends to party with.
There are ten public universities and a liberal arts college that comprise the State University System of Florida. In addition, the Florida College System is comprised of 28 public community colleges and state colleges. Florida also has private universities, some of which make up the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida.
